Bartlesville Basketball To Be Tested

Both the boys and girls Bartlesville basketball teams are playing some of their best basketball of the season. Both will need to continue that trend on Friday night when BHS hosts Muskogee for a boys and girls double header at the old gymnasium for Throwback Night.

The Bruins and Lady Bruins are coming off a sweep over Bishop Kelley on Tuesday in Tulsa. Muskogee will present both teams with different challenges.

The Lady Roughers are the no. 1 ranked team in Oklahoma, coming into Bartlesville with a 14-2 record. The only losses for the Muskogee girls were to East Central and Southmoore. The Lady Roughers most recently thumped Union, 60-33, on Tuesday night in Tulsa.

The Bartlesville girls (9-7) beat the Lady Comets 58-44 on Teusday night.

Muskogee's boy's team is a more familiar opponent for the BHS guys. Bartlesville (10-6) fell to the Roughers in overtime, 45-41, in the semifinals of the Carl Albert Titan Classic. That game was just seven days prior to the matchup on Friday in Bartlesville.

It has been talked about a lot, but moving AJ Parker to point guard, from shooting guard, has meant a lot for BHS during the past stretch of games. Four of Bartlesville's top scoring outings of the season have come in the past four games after the switch. BHS head coach Clent Stewart agrees, it has been big for the Bruins. Making shots helps, too.

As for Muskogee, size gives the Roughers a noticeable advantage against BHS. Several players range from 6-4 to 6-8. Stewart says Muskogee's length and depth will give Bartlesville some match up problems. Muskogee had some key guys hurt earlier in the year, contributing to the 7-8 record the Roughers bring into Bartlesville.

As for throwback night, Stewart isn't sure he is going to dress the part

The Bartlesville girls tip off at 6:00, with the boys around 7:30. You can hear both those games on KWON 1400 AM, 93.3 FM, with pregame starting at 5:45. You can also listen online, here, at Bartlesvilleradio.com or on our mobile app.
