Bartlesville Baseball Over Sand Springs

Lately, offense has been no problem for Bartlesville.

The Bruins beat Sand Springs on Tuesday evening at Doenges Memorial Stadium 5-2. After having only one man reach base through the first three innings, Bartlesville burst for two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to get the win. Bruin head coach Spence Rigdon talks about the offensive output this week.

Joe Jones threw four innings, allowing only one earned run on four hits, and got the victory. Jones allowed two runs to score, even through there were three errors in the first inning. Rigdon says he was impressed with how Jones battled through the adversity.

The offensive outburst almost came as a surprise.

Jake Ward, who started for Sand Springs (1-7), had allowed only an infield-single to AJ Archambo before the Bruins had five consecutive batters reach base in the fourth inning. With one out, and nobody on base, Gage Gardner reached on an error after a hard-hit ball to third. Then, Archambo blasted a triple to deep left-center field, scoring Gardner. In the next at-bat, Archambo scored on a Garrett Meidl double, giving BHS a 3-2 lead.

The Bruins (3-4) would add two more runs in the fifth inning, once again thanks to the heart of the order. Back-to-back hits from Archambo and Meidl would score Brady Sewell and Gardner, giving BHS the 5-2 lead.

Archambo and Meidl were the only to Bruins who finished with more than one hit. Archambo is 9-12 on the season, with five extra-base hits. Rigdon says his output is great for the middle of the order.

On the mound, Tate Holman also threw tremendously for BHS. Holman retired six of the first seven batters he faced. He ended up allowing three hits and no runs through 2.1 innings of work.AJ Archambo came on to get the final two outs of the game on a strikeout and an infield pop-up.

Bartlesville next plays host to the Oil Field Pipe and Supply Bruin Classic. BHS is scheduled to play a double-header on both Thursday and Friday. It is a wood-bat tournament, so Rigdon says there won't be any cheap hits. Rigdon on what BHS will work on during the classic.
