Area Schools Get the Season Kicked Off with Scrimmages

Area schools held football scrimmages yesterday evening. Pawhuska hosted Nowata and Tulsa Union’s JV team. The Huskies appeared to be in mid-season form.

Quarterback Bryce Drummond slung the ball around to many different targets and he led his team on two scoring drives against Tulsa Union. Running back Easton Kirk sat out the scrimmage, but coach Matt Hennesy said had it been week one he could have played with a broken finger. Hennesy added that with what he has seen from his team thus far, he believes they could do something special this year.

It was Chris Messner’s head coaching debut on the Nowata sidelines. Dillon Barnes, Emmett Sells and Trenton Smith all made some big plays. Their first team unit led Tulsa Union 14-0 at the halftime break.

Bartlesville had a scrimmage against Jenks yesterday evening as well. The Bruins lost 21-14, but quarterback Ben Winters connected with Shane Simpson for two touchdown passes and a 50-yard pass.

Dewey hosted Miami and Adair last night as well. We will have more on how things went from Bulldogger Stadium on Monday.

Pawhuska and Nowata will both be in action this Friday, while the Bruins will get things kicked off on September 6th.
