The American Athletic Conference announced plans to move forward with its fall sports championships on Wednesday afternoon. In football, each team will play an eight-game conference schedule and have the option to play up to 12 total games.

The first conference match-up won't be held until week three of the college football season and The Tulsa Golden Hurricanes won't play until week five, when they have a game at UCF. The Golden Hurricane will have back-to-back Friday evening games in weeks eight and nine. Tulsa was scheduled to play the Oklahoma State Cowboys. If schedules align, it is possible that game could still happen.

American Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco said, “The health and safety of our student athletes is our top priority as we face the challenges of the current global pandemic. With the guidance and advice of our Medical Advisory Group, which has done an outstanding job developing health and safety protocols, we have developed a collaborative and comprehensive plan that will allow us safely and reasonably to play our fall sports.”
