The Caney Valley boys’ basketball team is on quite a nice run in the first portion of the season. The Trojans are 5-1 overall and have opportunity to take home an early season tournament title in Welch. Caney Valley defeated Fairland on Tuesday night, 64-39. The Trojans should be favorites against Class-A Watts on Friday with a chance to punch their ticket to the finals on Saturday.

Caney Valley has topped 60 points in each of its wins this season. Head coach Tug Brinker says the team has emphasized getting extra possessions and its showing dividends.

Daniel Barham, Levi Coulter and Jacob Eaves are couple of players that Brinker says have shined so far. Although he stressed the team has bought into some schematic changes.

If these go well it looks like Caney Valley would either Welch or Wyandotte in the tournament finals on Saturday.
