2018 Look Back: Nowata Wins Own Regional
2018 was a year that saw incredible high school basketball around the area. One team that found great success in a February 2018 postseason run was the Nowata Ironmen. The senior-laden squad went 19-4 in the regular season and earned a bid as a regional host.
The Ironmen won a few thrilling contests and took home the regional title. The Ironmen squeaked by Wyandotte 78-76 on Feb 23. and then took out Ketchum 61-57 three days later to hoist the trophy.
Entering the area tournament with an undefeated postseason record put the Ironmen on the doorstep of a state tournament appearance. Unfortunately, Nowata would drop back-to-back contest to Luther and Ketchum to end their season at 21-6.
Despite losing the top eight players from last season the Ironmen are still finding success at 7-2 to start this season. Nowata posted a 21-5 record in the 2018 calendar year.
