2018 Look Back: Indians Win Winget

With 2018 a little under a week away from being over, this week we will take a look back at some of the best local sports stories from the area.

One of the coolest stories happened during one of the warmest months of the year.

The Doenges Ford Indian’s took home yet another Glen Winget Championship on July 7, 2018.

Bartlesville beat Kickapoo, Missouri 5-4 for the tournament championship. The Glen Winget takes place annually around the July 4th Holiday in downtown Bartlesville. This past summer was the 59th annual tournament.

The Indians won the game in dramatic style. Bartlesville had allowed Kickapoo to put runners on 1st and 3rd with only one out. Kickapoo would need to score just one run to move the game into the bottom of the seventh. However, Harold Borg and Grant Yardley had other plans. The two swift middle infielders turned two to win Bartlesville’s second Glen Wignet Championship in the past three years.

Braden Beasley was named Tournament MVP after picking up two wins on the mound. He also had two doubles three RBIs at the plate throughout the Winget. John Cone, Borg and Yardley were named to the all-tournament team, as well.

The Indian’s probably could have put the game away earlier, having left the bases loaded twice at the plate throughout the contest, which was a microcosm of the season for Bartlesville’s summer baseball team.

The Indian’s ended the year at 22-17. A great summer for Anthoney Tower’s club, but the talent on this past summer’s roster made it possible for more.

This summer the Indian’s will celebrate their 83rd year in Bartlesville.
