The 2018 nominees for the Bartlesville Sports Hall of Fame were announced on Wednesday evening during the annual meeting for the Bartlesville Sports Commission.

The 2018 Nominees:

Yogi York, who is a 1992 Bartlesville High graduate and was a Class 5A all-state selection in 1992. York played basketball at Oklahoma State for three years and is still number seven in OSU history in assists and number six in steals in Cowgirl history.

Mike Wise, a 1985 Bartlesville High graduate who played football at Oklahoma from 1985-1989. Wise won a National Championship with the Sooners in 1985.

The Coach nominee is Cecil Epperly. Epperly played basketball at Oklahoma A&M under Henry Iba. He came to Bartlesville as basketball coach in 1968 for three years, and returned later as an assistant for 14 years where his Bruin teams went 242-103.

The team award goes to the 1985 BHS girls Track Relay team, which won 5A State Championships in both the 400 and 800 meter relay.

And the Community nominees are Sam and Susie Barto, who were instrumental in the Phillips 66 gymnastics club for more than 30 years during the 80s, 90s and 2000s.

Former Bartlesville High boys’ basketball coach and athletic director Tim Bart heads the committee to pick the nominees, and he thinks this class is a good one.

The nominees will be officially enshrined during the Bartlesville Sports Hall of Fame Gala, which will take place on Nov. 3 at the Hilton Garden Inn.

Also at the Sports Commission meeting last night, Bob Pomeroy detailed the past year and looked ahead to 2019. This year’s Great American Conference Tournament generated $ 2.215 million for Bartlesville.

The GAC is in the final year of a three year contract to host that basketball tournament at Bruin Fieldhouse. Bartlesville will send in another bid late this year to try to keep the tournament here.
