The city of Bartlesville has a lot of operating expenses and with the recent drop in gas prices, the amount of revenue coming in has dropped.  A discussion has been underway for some time to increase the city sales tax and residents will vote that on that issue on October 13th, 2015.  City Administrative Director and CFO Mike Bailey describes the sales tax history in Bartlesville.

Bailey said Oklahoma is literally the only state that restricts municipalities solely to sales tax for operations.  He also said other states have access to property taxes, income tax and even gross production taxes.
