The Bartlesville City Council will be asking the voters to the polls to decide on a sales tax increase.  After months of discussions of where the city should go in the future, the city council voted to have city staff to prepare documents for a four-tenths of one percent sales tax increase and set an October 13th, 2015 election.  The City relies on sales tax to fund many departments including the police and fire.  But a decline in sales tax in the last few years have seen city staff to reduce costs and programs.  The Parks and Recreation has taken the hardest hit.  Mayor Tom Gorman explained his thoughts on the City's direction.

Councilman Ted Lockin said that sales tax is the economic engine for the community.

Once city staff produces an official document on the proposal, the item will be brought back to the council for final action.  The last sales tax increase for Bartlesville was back in 1987.
