A July 16th preliminary hearing date is set for James Lindsey Jones, who is charged with possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction.  Washington County Sheriff deputies were called to the area of North 3990 Road in Dewey in reference of someone firing shots in an unsafe matter.

According to a court affidavit, officers saw Jones standing in a driveway next to a car holding a .22 caliber and didn't have a backstop in place.  Jones told officers he was shooting bottles on a fence post.  Reportedly, Jones told the deputies he purchased the rifle to his son.  When asked if he was convicted of a felony, Jones said he only had misdemeanor convictions.  Court records indicate that Jones was convicted of drug charges in Nowata County back in 2012.

Jones remains in jail on an $150,000 bond.
