Osage Nation Honors Veterans with Tax Exemption

The Osage Nation Congressional Act 15-21, sponsored by Osage Congressmen James Norris and co-sponsored by congress members Angela Pratt, Ron Shaw, and John Maker was passed during the 2015 Hun-Kah Session in March.

The act was designed to honor Osage Veterans receiving 100 percent disability. The state of Oklahoma provides a sale tax waiver for veterans with 100 percent disability, and “it makes sense that the Osage Nation can do the same for our 100 percent disabled veterans” said Congressmen James Norris.

The Osage Nation Congressional Act 15-21 will allow qualifying Osage Veterans to be exempt from sales and lodging taxes from Osage Businesses, however the waiver does not include tobacco products.

In order for veterans to receive their Osage Nation Veterans Exemption waiver they need to go to the Tax Commission office with their membership card, a photo ID, a valid DD-214, and evidence from the VA proving their 100 percent disability fill out the 15-21-1 form. The tax commission is located at 220 W Main in Pawhuska.
