May Unemployment Rises in Most of Oklahoma
Diane Coston
The new unemployment numbers for the state, released by the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission on Wednesday, are showing a slight downward trend for 75 out of the 77 counties in Oklahoma during the month of May. Some good news for our area is that the rate in Nowata County is unchanged, staying at 5.4%. The rate in both Washington and Osage counties rose by a half a percentage point each with the rate rising from 3.7% to 4.2% in Washington County and from 4.7% to 5.2% in Osage County. Many of the jobs lost were in the oil industry sector.
