Many Oklahoma counties suffered mild to severe flood damage during the month of May and will be getting assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. FEMA is extending the claim filing period another 180 days to give residents time to gather information and make sure that their claim is correct.

Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John Doak said, “This extra time to file a claim will be beneficial for all those who suffered damage.” The new deadline gives property owners a total of 240 days after the date of loss to provide proof of loss to their insurance company, meaning someone who had damage in May this year would have until January of 2016 to submit a claim.
