The combined forces of Washington County, the city of Bartlesville and the BPSD are working to create a Hazard Mitigation plan for the area. To be eligible for FEMA assistance, a plan is a requirement. Many people think that weather-related disasters are the main issue but HAZMAT issues also need to be addressed. Hazard Mitigation consultant Ronald Flanagan said main roads and railroads carry a lot of hazardous material.

The area's Hazard Mitigation plan should be available for public input sometime in July. The current plan can be viewed at http://www.cityofbartlesville.org/
