Governor Mary Fallin is directing ODOT to expedite bidding on county infrastructure projects. Repairs of widespread damage to roads and bridges from recent flooding could be an issue for many counties. Money was taken from the County Improvement Roads and Bridges Fund by state legislators to help balance the budget. Fallin said, “there will be infrastructure needs on the local level and that the state needs to play an active role in helping the counties anyway we can.”

Some legislators and county commissioners have requested Fallin redirect money from the Rainy Day Fund but she does not have the legal authority to do so. Fallin also said, “Transportation Secretary Gary Ridley and ODOT Director Michael Patterson are working hard to find additional ways we can provide state support for local infrastructure repairs.” Earlier this week, the Governor declared a state of emergency for all 77 Oklahoma counties.
