Officials, staff and employees from Washington County, the city of Bartlesville, the BPSD and several other communities are working to create a Hazard Mitigation Plan. During a meeting Thursday afternoon, a major topic of discussion was safe rooms. Hazard Mitigation consultant Ron Flanagan said that 50 percent of tornado deaths happen in mobile home parks which comprise just ten percent of the housing market.

The city of Bartlesville is considering a cost-share safe room program depending on funding available from FEMA. Washington County Emergency Management Director Kary Cox reported that NOAA weather radios are in all public buildings in Washington County.
