State Legislators Working to Preserve Education Funding
Diane Coston
The state of Oklahoma is facing a $611 million budget deficit. State legislators are working hard to preserve education funding. Freshman Representative Travis Dunlap said that general education receives 35 % of the allocated budget and when you add in higher education and career tech, more than 50 cents of every dollar paid by taxpayers, goes to education.
Representative Earl Sears said a requested salary hike for teachers will likely not be in the cards for the next school year. Teachers, parents and administrators will hold a rally at the Capitol on Monday, March 30th.
