A bill that would allow terminally ill patients to have access to medicines that could help them and have been given temporary approval by the FDA but not yet on pharmacy shelves was passed by unanimous vote on Wednesday morning. House Bill 1074 was under consideration by the House Public Health Committee and was approved to move forward by a vote of 10-0. People with a terminal illness would be allowed to bypass an FDA rule that asks permission for access to investigational medicines and avoid hundreds of hours of paperwork and several months of waiting time. Dozens of cases of people dying while waiting for approval have been documented. House Bill 1074 was authored by Representative Richard Morrissette of Oklahoma City.
