First-District Congressman Jim Bridenstine has signed-on as one of several cosponsors of a proposed amendment to the omnibus Federal appropriations bill that will be considered this week.  The proposed amendment would prohibit the use of any funds or fees from being used to execute what the congressman calls the President’s unilateral, unconstitutional changes to U.S. immigration laws announced in November.

Bridenstine says he strongly supports the effort to stop the President’s illegal and unconstitutional action to go around Congress.  Bridenstine refers to the United States Constitution, saying that Article I Section 8, clearly states the role of the Legislative Branch to ‘establish a[n] uniform Rule of Naturalization’ and the courts have repeatedly affirmed that Congress has the authority to establish rules of immigration.  The role of the Executive Branch, the President personally, is also clearly stated in Article II Section 3:  ‘he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed’.  Bridenstine says the President needs to do his constitutional duty.
