Local philanthropist and champion of education Barry Lowe passed away Thursday at the age of 69. Lowe worked in the engineering department at Phillips Petroleum and served on the Bartlesville School Board form 2001 to 2010, serving a president from 2004 to 2008.

In 2006, Lowe and his wife started the Lowe Family Young Scholars Program, which awards students $4000 per year for their college education.

Dr. Alan Eastman, School Board President in 2001, says that Lowe wanted to make a difference in Bartlesville by joining the school board.

Speaking about the scholarship program, Bartlesville School's Superintendent Dr. Gary Quinn says it has made a significant difference to students in the area.

Funeral services for Lowe will be Tuesday, December 9 at 11 AM at Grace Community Church in Bartlesville with Pastor Rod McIlvaine officiating. Interment will follow at Bartlesville's Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Walker-Brown Funeral Home.
