Commissioners Approve American Rescue Plan Resolution
A resolution regarding the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) was approved unanimously by the Washington County Commissioners on Monday morning.
Commissioner Mike Dunlap said he was reluctant to approve the item. He said the amount of strings that are attached to the plan are inappropriate.
That being said, Commissioner Dunlap said the plan involves taxpayer monies and he doesn't feel comfortable with sending it back. He said they have to find appropriate uses for the funds under the guidelines, which they will.
The American Rescue Plan Act was signed into law under the Biden Administration on March 11, 2021. Washington County is designated to potentially receive a total amount of $10,008,516. Washington County Emergency Management Director Kary Cox completed the necessary paperwork regarding the ARPA in May 2021.
Later in May, Washington County received a payment in the amount of $5,004,258 that was directly deposited into its General Account. A cash fund was created shortly after those monies were received. The resolution that was approved regards the remaining monies within the fund, and the approval and acceptance of all terms, requirements and monies from the ARPA.
