As a result of six women developing blood clots after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, Oklahoma Health Officials opted to put a pause on giving the vaccine. A CDC committee is meeting today to discuss the cases and a possible link to the vaccine.

The FDA will release any recommendations the CDC committee has. Epidemiologist for the OU Health and Science Center, Aaron Wendelboe had this to say regarding the pause:

“Somebody in Oklahoma is 100 times more likely to die in a car crash than to get a blood clot from the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Also, an unvaccinated person in Oklahoma is more than 10 times as likely to die from COVID than to get in a car crash.”

The stoppage of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will not have a huge impact on the state’s release of the vaccine, as less than three percent of all shots administered have been the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
