The Nowata Ironmen return to the field this Friday for a district game against Sperry. Nowata got in five practice sessions last week despite having a bye. The Ironmen are 0-3 on the season and are hoping their fortunes can change come district play. In 2019, Nowata started winless in non-district play but turned around to win five of seven games and finish third in the district.

This year’s squad has been feeling the effects of a late spring coaching change and the subsequent scheme shift that went with it. So far new head coach Graham Snelding likes what his team has been able to do all things considered. Snelding points out some players that have caught his attention so far.

Nowata will have a tough task with Sperry on the road this Friday. Don’t be fooled by the Pirates 1-2 record. Snelding expects them to be just as competitive as the group that went to the 2A quarterfinals last season. Sperry has dropped games to 3A Verdigris and 4A Wagoner so far. The Pirates are expected to contend with Adair and Rejoice Christian for the 2A District 8 crown.

Kickoff from Sperry is set for 7 p.m. on Friday. No radio coverage for the Ironmen this week.
