The COVID-19 virus has made its way into the area and possibly into Nowata County. Emergency Management Director Laurie Summers alerted the public at Monday’s meeting of the Nowata County Commissioners. Summers talks about the ongoing situation.

Summers says in most cases there is delay between the person testing positive and the public being informed. There are currently no confirmed cases in the County. There are 81 positive tests in the state. Summers says the Oklahoma State Department of Health is working on setting up drive-thru testing clinics in each county. Right now there are no concrete plans regarding the testing.

The commissioners authorized an emergency declaration after hearing Summers speak. This will allow for the county to be reimbursed for administrative costs and emergency supplies pertaining to COVID-19. The county commissioners will also address making changes to their open meetings regulations at the next scheduled meeting.
