Commissioner Doug Sonenberg confirmed that a registered sex offender is being employed by Nowata County district two. A concerned citizen has spoken up about the matter at several previous Nowata County Commissioners meetings. Sonenberg stated that the individual in question deserves a job.

Sonenberg said the employee is supervised. When asked, district three commissioner Troy Friddle stated that he would not employ any sex offenders in his district.

Online records show that Jason Lafferty of Lenapah is employed by Nowata County district two. Lafferty was convicted of making lewd or indecent proposals to a minor in 2011.
