Nowata Commissioners Talk Medical Marijuana

The conversation at Monday morning’s Nowata County Commissioners meeting revolved around a certificate of compliance from the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority. No action was taken on the item however several ideas were brought forward as to how the county should regulate medical marijuana.

As of right now the county does not have any ordinances pertaining to medical marijuana, while the city does. Nowata police chief Mike McElhaney says fees and taxes could bring money to the county.

Concerns about the security of grow operations were also brought forward. The commissioners will take up this item next week after consulting legal counsel.

The board also tabled an item regarding the receiving of the county budget. County treasurer Lynn Wesson says there is $40,000 less in the budget than last year. The budget will be officially presented on Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m.
