The Bartlesville Art Association will award three visual art scholarships to Washington County high school seniors. The Virginia Neely Sweet Scholarship Awards are $1,000 each and will be for students to use for higher education.

Applicants may or may not be going to school for art, but should show that art will be a part of their future life. The scholarships are also for students who have contributed to the visual arts and will continue to have a love for art in the future.

Requirements for students who wish to apply for the Bartlesville Art Association Scholarships in honor of Virginia Neely Sweet include:

  • Be a member of BAA. Join by going to bartlesvilleartassociation.org. Membership for high school students is free.
  • Enter one or two pieces of art in the BAA Spring Show. The event is free to high school students. Prospectus can be found on their website.
  • Compile a digital portfolio with 5 artworks and a description for each piece.
  • Submit a Word document or PDF file with a personal artist statement. This should be several paragraphs long but not more than a page. The statement should show the student's belief in how art has shaped them as a person, student and citizen.
  • A Word doc or PDF statement on the student's strengths as a student, artist and citizen. BAA asks that you include how the scholarship will aid a student toward higher education.
  • A one-page letter of recommendation for a current art teacher, a past art teacher or a non-related adult.

Interested students should contact Dedra Morgan by email (dlm2nd@gmail.com) for any questions or concerns about a digital portfolios or other requirements for scholarships.

Completed digital portfolios need to be sent to Steven Graham (boomerang_g@sbcglobal.net) and also Dedra Morgan. This should be done no later than noon on Friday, April 19th.
