Trash collected between Bartlesville and Dewey along State Highway 123 has caused some concern in recent weeks.

Washington County Commissioner Mike Bouvier says he has been in contact with the Department of Environmental Quality to hold those accountable for the trash that is being dumped and burned along the roadway. He says DEQ sent the letter two weeks ago meaning those responsible should have received the letter last week.

Bouvier says the consequences could be worse if the requests are not met. If the people dumping trash do not concede to the request in the Department of Environmental Quality's letter, they will have to appear before a judge in Washington County District Court.

Bouvier said a clean environment is important in that it will bring more people to northeast Oklahoma. He also said it is important to keep the environment clean so future generations can love where they live.
