The Bartlesville Police Department has launched a "MyPD" app. The app allows citizens to be directly notified of alerts and emergency situations. Bartlesville Police Chief Tracy Roles said citizens can easily send in crime tips and other information also. He said the BPD is certainly the first to his knowledge to utilize this app in Northeast Oklahoma.

Roles said the app, which is available for both Android and iPhone users, makes communicating with police easier than ever. You the citizen can use the app to find community information. You can find contact information for Chief Roles and other police captains as well. He said that you can even commend an officer for their work on the app.

Roles stressed the app should not be used in emergencies though. You should always call 9-1-1 in case of an emergency. While you can use the app to send in crime tips and other information, Roles said the app should not be used in life threatening emergency situations.

MyPD includes resources and links on a number of topics, including domestic violence, missing children and drug assistance resources. The app is free for residents and contains no advertising. Users do not need to share personal information or set up an account to use the app.

The City of Bartlesville will promote the app on social media, City websites and with stickers and download cards. More than 500,000 people have downloaded the app nationwide. MyPD serves approximately 200 cities and towns of various sizes around the U.S.

Citizens looking to connect with the Bartlesville police should search for MyPD in their app store. Once the app is downloaded and the agency is chosen, it will always open to the Bartlesville Police Department and its resources.
