City May Look Into Car Charging Station Possibilities

Ward 2 City Councilman Paul Stuart says the City of Bartlesville is working on a survey for downtown parking and roadways. He said they will probably redo most of the streets next year, which is why they are looking at the parking situation downtown. The City of Bartlesville is looking at the parking block by block because what works on Frank Phillips Boulevard may not work the same way for Osage Avenue, Stuart said.

One thing the survey will ask about is the possibility of having an electric car charging station downtown. According to Stuart, the cost of cars powered by electricity is low and their increased presence on local roadways is highly anticipated. There are some Oklahoma city's that have the station in place, but those stations are far and few in between. People really have to choose where they go based on where those stations are, Stuart said.

The City of Pawhuska has been one of those cities interested in this service in recent months. You can read more on our story on Pawhuska's interests by clicking here.

Stuart added that more people may come to the City of Bartlesville if they had a electrical car charging service to offer those from out of town. There are grants available that could cover 70 to 80-percent of the costs if the City ever decided to install a station downtown. The survey, Stuart said, will be the most telling as to what the City will do with this service.
