The Dewey Public Works Authority met Monday night to discuss an issue involving Dewey's Waste Water Treatment Facility. Several racks in a troth that kill bacteria before the water is released into the creek are outdated.

City Manager Kevin Trease said the Trojan Model 2000 is what is currently being used. He said the system was installed in the mid-80's and all that is available now is a Trojan Model 3000. The equipment, he said, is obsolete. The electrical connectors for the light bulds cannot be purchased anymore. Trease has also talked to companys about retrofitting the Model 3000 with the current system and he has had no luck. They have hit a brick wall and they have no choice but to change the system out, Trease said.

Trease said it will cost the City of Dewey approximately $58,000 to fix if they choose to work on the project with City staff. He said the City would pursue grants but that would possibly cause a 9 month delay. The system is currently shut off because it normal runs during warmer seasons. The Dewey Public Works Authority would go on to approve the allowance of staff to initiate the bidding process to purchase new disinfectant equipment for the Waste Water Treatment Facility.
