Scout Executive Philip Wright with the Cherokee Area Council Boy Scouts of America says this is an important time of year for fundraising. He says scouting units in Nowata, Osage, Washington, Craig, Delaware and Ottawa counties are working hard with their Friends of Scouting presentations now. Wright says the Cherokee Area Council BSA wants to encourage local donors to keep supporting their Scouts because the donors make the programs for their Scouts possible. The Council expresses great gratitude for helping them continue to strive like they did in 2018.

In 2018, 9,412 hours of community service hours were donated through service projects. Wright says those who become a Friend of Scouting donor will provide those same hours if not more of community service for local scouts in addition to other scouting programs.

On top of being a Gold Council for the second straight year, 2,401 youth members got involved in Cherokee Area Council scouting programs, 283 trained adult volunteers served as leaders and 118 Cub Scouts attended Day Camp in 2018. 931 merit badges were also earned by area Boy Scouts while 15 Scouts earned the rank of Eagle Scout. To learn how you can become a donor or learn more about scouting, call the Cherokee Area Council at 918.336.9170, or go to cherokeebsa.org.
