Oklahoma Wesleyan won a thrilling game at the buzzer to keep its undefeated season alive. OKWU knocked off Avila 63-62 in a game that was much closer than it needed to be. OKWU turned the ball over at a critical time down the stretch and then allowed Avila to take the lead on an and-one layup at 62-61.

With nine seconds left in the game the Eagles drove down the court and took the lead on this Josh Wilchcombe tip-in with just two seconds left.

Wilchcombe finished the game with a team-high 18 points and 11 rebounds. The senior forward had this to say about the final sequence.

The third-ranked Eagles move to 13-0 on the season despite the scare from 1-9 Avila. OKWU has won 18 straight home games.

The Lady Eagles were able to bust out of a three-game losing streak with a 70-59 victory. Whitney Metker’s 10 second half points proved to be the spark the Lady Eagles needed of the bench in the win. Metker played in just her second game in conference play.

OKWU claimed the lead midway through the first quarter and never gave it up. Avila pulled within five point with four minutes to go but an 11-5 run to finish out the game clinched the victory.

The Lady Eagles are 4-4 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play and 8-5 overall. Grace Hadley earned her first career win as interim head coach.

Both teams have one more conference date before winter break with a trip to Sterling College for a doubleheader on Saturday.
