Multiple public hearings were held regarding business proposals at the regularly scheduled Bartlesville City Council meeting on Monday night.

The first public hearing held was in regards to increment district No. 9. The public was given an opportunity to comment on a proposed amendment to this increment district, which is funding the Bison Trails Apartments Project Plan. The only change being proposed in this amendment would be extending the term of this increment district through 2027. No member of the public chose to comment.

A public hearing was also held for the proposal of the termination of increment district No. 7. The public did not comment on this matter either.

A second public hearing will be held for both of these proposals at the next regularly scheduled city council on October 16.

David Wood from the Bartlesville Development Authority gave a presentation about a plan for a possible Popeye’s Chicken restaurant. Wood says the BDA labeled Popeye’s as a targeted brand that would add more appeal to Bartlesville. Wood explains the label.

The proposed restaurant site is currently occupied by the Sooner Motel, which is not currently in operation. The council recommended appropriating $65,000 from the economic development fund in order to demolish the motel and to facilitate the construction of Popeye’s. The demolition costs will be reimbursed upon the receipt of a certificate of occupancy.
