The Oklahoma Department of Labor has reported that the Oklahoma public sector employers have reduced their injury and illness incidence rate to 3.8 per 100 workers, down from 4.0 in 2014. Oklahoma has seen a 47% decrease in the incidence rate over the past 16 years.

The Oklahoma Department of Labor's Public Employee Occupational Safety and Health Division has successfully lead a targeted and focused initiative on public sector employers who have an incident rate above the state's average.

Labor Commissioner Melissa McLawhorn Houston says “I am pleased that the important work of our PEOSH division has resulted in a significant decrease in the injury rate for our public sector employees. This data shows that we are making important progress in the critical goal of ensuring our public sector employees are able to serve our communities and return home each night to their families.”

Houston also says that Oklahoma is unique as they collect injury and illness data from more than 5 thousand employers. That data is used to reduce the workplace incidents.
