State Budget Agreement Reached
Charlie Taraboletti
Gov. Mary Fallin has reached a budget deal with Republican legislative leaders that includes no further cuts to public schools and prevents cuts to Medicaid provider rates.
In a joint announcement Tuesday, the three sides said the agreement would close $969.3 million of the $1.3 billion budget gap legislators faced at the start of the session.
State agencies will have to absorb about $360 million in cuts from last year's original appropriation. House Appropriations and Budget Committee Chairman Earl Sears says he still has a tough hill to climb. Both chambers must approve the budget before Friday's adjournment.
