A Montgomery County 16 year-old that relatives reported missing has been located and he is in good health.  Lazerous Butler was reported missing on Sunday night from his home east of Independence. The Montgomery County Sheriff, Highway patrol, Rural firefighters and volunteers were involved in an extensive search for two days in the area east of Independence, on the ground and from the air, with no results.

Montgomery County Sheriff Bobbie Dierks says Butler walked into the Independence Police Department about 10:30 Tuesday night. Following an interview of the young man, authorities placed him into protective custody. Authorities had been particularly concerned for his safety because he was reportly mentally challenged.

Butler had apparently walked from his rural home on the road known as the Cherryvale short cut into Independence and he  reportedly was hiding out in a relatives attic for the last two days.  Sheriff Dierks indicated there was more to be learned and that Lazerous Butler will remain in protective custody until the investigation is complete.
