The United States Department of Homeland Security announced this past weekend that Oklahoma will be one of 28 States to receive an extension on the REAL ID Act.

The States that receive the extension will have 120 days to meet with compliance guidelines established by Homeland Security, otherwise State Identification cards will not be accepted as admittance to Federal Facilities or Commercial Airports.

The Department of Homeland Security is working with the TSA to ensure State issued identification cards will be accepted while traveling, however a second form of ID may be required.

The Department of Public Safety is working with Homeland Security to ensure that Oklahoma-issued driver licenses and identification cards remain acceptable forms of ID to comply with the REAL ID Act for as long as possible.

Meanwhile, DPS continues to partner with the Governor's office and Oklahoma's state and federal legislators in an effort to achieve a solution to REAL ID compliance.
