Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Working on Pollinator Plan
If you've ever been stung by a bee or are frightened by insects, you might think their decline is a good thing. Not so, says the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. The O D A F F is working to gain input on a proposed pollinator plan by holding regional public hearings with one taking place in Tulsa next week.
Pollinators are a necessity for most types of plants and they come in all shapes and sizes. People think of honeybees but other insects are needed for the job as well. Other species of bees are needed and beetles, butterflies, moths, hummingbirds and bats also contribute to pollination. A meeting takes place at Tulsa Community College Northeast Campus on September 9. More information on the meeting and a draft pollinator plan for Oklahoma can be found by visiting http://ag.ok.gov/
